Integrating total wellness into your daily routine to maximize productivity.
As one of the core coaching modules, corporate athleticism has had a tremendous impact on the overall effectiveness of executives coached by John.
What is Corporate Athleticism
Imagine that you’re a race car driver who suddenly stops caring about the condition his car is in. You think, “I don’t have to have it tuned up. I don’t have to make sure it’s balanced and tight, or that it can perform. I’m just going to work it hard so it won’t make any difference.”
That’s how some people approach the professional world. In the book Powerful Engagement, the idea is put forth that we cannot create success beyond our physical capacity to bring energy into our lives. So corporate athleticism matters anytime performance matters, and we want to recognize that our physical energy actually drives our level of production.
We must be ready and prepared to succeed. In order to do that, we must create rituals that put us in positions to ensure that we have high levels of success. Rituals are important because, every single day, we have to make new choices about what actions we’re going to take, and these actions will enable us to reach a higher level of peak performance. Over time, our willpower will wear down, our ability to contribute will be reduced, but rituals make it easier to take those actions.
With that success, we realize our continuous process. It is maturing from where we are to where we’d really like to be. In order to stay fully engaged, just like a fitness program, corporate athleticism is about progress, not perfection.
By bringing the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual into our lives, we become athletes preparing to compete at a high level. If your life matters, then caring for your abilities and capacity, how you bring energy to and impact the world, really matters.
