By thinking about our principles and deciding which ones are the most important to us, we simplify many decisions we might otherwise wrestle with and often choose against our deepest self interest. This is because, in the heat of the moment, decisions are often made based on expediency, rather than principle. This is critical because although expediency can feel good in the moment, principled decisions ultimately lead us to the outcomes personally and professionally that we desire.
